The Centre for the History of Science, Technology and Medicine (CHSTM) was founded in 1986 and now serves as a focus for the discipline in the Manchester region and beyond. Established in April 2001, the Centre for the History of Medicine and Disease (CHMD) is a University-approved Research Centre that provides a focus for research and postgraduate education in the history of medicine, health, disease, and medical ethics. It unites staff and postgraduates from the Department of Philosophy and the School for Health and has links to several other departments with interests in history of medicine, including Archaeology, Geography, and Modern European Languages. Together with the medical historians at the University of Newcastle, it forms the Northern Centre for the History of Medicine (NCHM). Within the University of Durham, the CHMD constitutes together with the Centre for Arts and Humanities in Health and Medicine the Medical Humanities Research Group. The CHMD's research and other activities are supported by grants from the Wellcome Trust. Current areas of research in the CHMD include the history of medical ethics and the medical profession, the history of sexuality and the body (including anatomy), the history of infectious diseases, the history of pharmacology, medicine in the Middle Ages, and other cultural aspects of medicine and health. In collaboration with the Philosophy Department and the School for Health the CHMD runs a Master's programme in History and Philosophy of Science and Medicine. This one-year (two years part-time) programme combines historical and philosophical approaches to medicine and science.The CHMD promotes: Interdisciplinary research projects and research income generation - Collaborative research with other relevant centres in the UK and abroad - Postgraduate education in the History of Medicine - Public understanding of the historical dimensions of health care and medical science.

The IUHPS is one of 26 scientific unions belonging to the International Council of Scientific Unions (ICSU). As the world's leading non-governmental organization in the field of science, ICSU promotes congresses, publications, and other initiatives designed to facilitate international exchanges and understanding. The IUHPS joined the ICSU family in 1947, and the history of science congresses that have taken place since that date have been held under the ICSU umbrella. The IUHPS is itself composed of two divisions: the DHST and the DLMPS (Division of Logic, Methodology, and Philosophy of Science).

This site includes a full-text online archive of the Association's quarterly journal, EASST Review, dating back to 1994; an open-access email directory of present and former members; information on joining the society, and a small, unannotated collection of links to STS-related sites. The site suffers from some odd web design in places and often appears to be out of date: it is stated to be maintained regularly but infrequently, "on or about the 15th of March, June, September and December", to coincide with the publication of the journal.

The International Committee for the History of Technology (ICOHTEC) was founded as the Cold War was being waged with particular bitterness between the nations of the Eastern and Western Worlds. The intent was to provide a forum where scholars of both sides might meet and communicate about matters of mutual interest in the history of technology. ICOHTEC was constituted as a Scientific Section within the Division of the History of Science of the International Union of the History and Philosophy of Science (IUHPS/DHS) at the XIIth International Congress for the History of Science, Technology, and Medicine in Paris in August 1968. Through IUHPS, ICOHTEC is associated with UNESCO, but it has always functioned as a fully autonomous body with its funding dependent on its membership.

The International Coronelli Society (founded 1952) is devoted to the scientific investigation of questions relating to old and antique terrestrial and celestial globes, armillary spheres and planetaria, and the publication of the results of these investigations. Included in its activities are matters such as the drawing up of inventories, conservation and restoration work, research into the producers, and questions related to the use of globes. Fifty two numbers of the journal "Der Globusfreund. Wissenschaftliche Zeitschrift für Globenkunde / Globe Studies. The Journal of the International Coronelli Society" have appeared so far, and ten symposia, attended by experts and people interested in the subject from many countries, have so far been held. The International Coronelli Society is the only one of its kind and one of the oldest societies in the field of the history of cartography.

The Scientific Instrument Commission is a constituent organization of the International Union of the History and Philosophy of Science (IUHPS). It seeks to encourage scholarly research on the history of scientific instruments, and the preservation and documentation of collections of instruments, as well as their use within the wider discipline of the history of science. So as to promote interest in the history of instruments, to encourage discussion and to advance scholarship, annual symposia are held in different parts of the world, usually where there are important collections of instruments or centres of research and teaching. When appropriate, the proceedings of these symposia have been published. Once every four years the annual symposium forms part of the Congress of the IUHPS. The Commission also publishes an annual newsletter and maintains a cumulative bibliography database, and occasionally sponsors workshops on specialist themes.

In May 2006, The Huntington announced an extraordinary addition to its library collections: the gift of the entire Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Burndy Library, composed of some 67,000 rare books and reference volumes, as well as a collection of scientific instruments. Combined with the Huntington's holdings, the collection becomes one of the most extensive in the history of science and technology in the world. The Society for Social Studies of Science (4S), founded in 1975, is an international learned society covering broadly the subject area usually identified as Science and Technology Studies (STS), incorporating the social and cultural study of science, technology and medicine. Its associated website provides conference news, information on joining the Society, a list of names and contact addresses for members of the governing council, and details of prizes awarded by the Society. Brief details are given of the Society's journal, Science, Technology and Human Values; 4S also maintains a thrice-yearly newsletter, Technoscience, of which most copies since 1995 are archived at this site.
