Aborted project from MIT Dibner center. The website of the Dibner Institute for the History of Science and Technology, was located on the campus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is the online presence of a centre with a strong live-event programme. The Institute is focussed on advanced research, hosting symposia, conferences, lectures and other events aimed at senior, post-doctoral and graduate researchers. However, the Institute closed at the end of 2006, so the fellowship programme is no longer open for applications. The catalogue of the Institute's Burndy Library, known for its collection of rare books, may be searched online. The website has valuable information for researchers not planning to attend in person also. It includes information on the project for the History of Recent Science and Technology, which aims to use the potential of digital libraries and online resources to enable scholars to work together across physical boundaries. Areas currently discussed through this project are the Apollo Guidance Computer, Bioinformatics and Perspectives on Molecular Evolution. The site includes interviews with Professor Peter Hirsch and Professor Shin Fujitani. While the live events detailed on the site are drawing to a close, the online resources are growing, so this site is one which offers a developing collection of material for advanced scholars, which is easily accessible and well-presented.
